Despite some hail damage, the community garden at Morgan Community College is doing well. In fact, it could use about 20 more tomato cages to support the thriving tomato plants that are left, garden manager Hector Varela said during a meeting of the garden’s steering committee Monday afternoon.

District’s Native Garden ready for its ‘Close-Up’

Since its pilot program was launched in spring 2008, the Ramapough Native Gardens’ reputation just hasn’t stopped growing. The gardens, located at the Robert Erskine and Peter Cooper schools, will get statewide recognition when “Classroom Close-Up,” which airs on local Channel 12, tapes a segment of the gardens on Monday, June 7.

A memorial garden for a Kinsner Elementary School student has come back to life just in time for Monday’s holiday. Strongsville resident Justine Mroczka, 16, organized the redesign and replanting of the Hannah Wernke Memorial Garden for her Girl Scout Gold Award project.
