Should you invest in a water conditioner, softener or filter for your home?

April 17, 2015 by · Comments Off on Should you invest in a water conditioner, softener or filter for your home?

Many use the general term of conditioner to indicate softener or a filter as well. They all are form of water conditioners. The conditioner is a generic term for water treatment normally at your home. In its basic form it refers to straining or filtering dirt and other particles out of your water.

Water in your area may not be the same as another area. Some area water is extremely hard and could contain 30 grains per gallon or higher. The measurement indicates the weight of hardness of minerals in the water. The Geological Survey of the United States (USGS) considers 10.5 grains per gallon is extremely hard.

There are minimum government treatment standards before water reaches your home. Chloramines replaced Chlorine as the main disinfectant in our water in many communities. Since many communities are getting majority of their water from water wells, the water we use is extremely hard. The change in chemicals to treat water creates many issues for homeowners with water heaters due to increased sedimentation and others in many communities. Water heater failure is one big issue many homeowners face today. For communities with hard water, water conditioners may help with the issue to a certain degree.

How to extend the life of your furniture

With adequate care you could prolong the life and durability of your furniture. However, it is inevitable that during the lifespan of a furniture some parts would have to be refreshed and replaced. The upholstery for instance, is the part that is most prone to be damaged.

Damage Causes

Furniture made out fabric often lose some of their shape and color with time. Moreover, upholstery that are made out of faux-leather are often cracked in various spots. People having pets often see their furniture damaged by their claws. Apart from the exterior parts, the foam would be needing replacement as well. After several years of usage, sofa seat cushions tend to drop down and become saggy. With some simple steps you might be able to extend the life of your furniture.

Paint and Varnish

The life of wooden furniture can be effectively extended by regularly applying a fresh coat of painting and varnish to them. Before doing that, the previous coating might need to be scraped off either by using sandpaper or a scrub brush. The furniture can then be nourished with wood polish and cream.

Foam Replacement

In order to bring back the bounciness of your coach foam, you might consider going for a foam replacement. Generally high density foams tend to be more long-lasting and convenient to be used for couch fillings and beddings. Most companies would offer the possibility of having the foam custom cut to fit the dimensions of the project.

The Foam Factory specializes in a large array of foam products including cushion filling.
